Single motherhood, PCOS' effects on egg quality, TSH and fertility, and more - March 2019 CHR VOICE
Single motherhood, PCOS' effects on egg quality, TSH and fertility, and more - March 2019 CHR VOICE Digest
February and running into March has been a very busy month at CHR clinically and in terms of international visitors. Because the annual conference “Best of ASRM and ESHRE” this year took place in NYC, we welcomed quite a number of visitors at CHR, among those Evelyn Telfer, PhD from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, UK, one of the world’s most recognized reproductive biologists and long-time collaborator with CHR’s David F. Albertini, PhD. We, indeed, were privileged to celebrate her husband’s 70th birthdays with the couple and a small group of colleague and friends at Le Charlot next to CHR.
Dr. Telfer, Dr. Patrizio, Dr. Brivanlou and CHR investigators
Our lead article this month addresses the rapidly growing number of usually more mature single women who consciously decide to become single mothers with help of fertility treatments. In contrast to single men, who are also seen with increasing frequency in fertility centers seeking single fatherhood, women can do it all on their own (men, of course, require a woman to carry the pregnancy, i.e., a so-called gestational carrier). In addition, we present CHR’s 2018 publication list, should anyone of our readers be interested in a reprint. And, finally, this issue of the _VOICE _also again tackles a number of your questions. We hope you enjoy the read!
In this issue of the CHR VOICE, we cover:
- More women deciding to become single mothers via fertility treatments
- PCOS' effects on egg quality are not one-size-fits-all
- What causes amenorrhea and when should you see a doctor?
- Does myo-inositol improve egg quality?
- Predicting IVF outcomes based on AMH and FSH
- TSH levels and fertility in women
- CHR's 2018 fertility research publication round-up
