Dr. Beverly Reed's petition on COVID-19 and women's rights to fertility treatment and evaluation
At CHR, we appreciated the genuine, honest and valuable contribution that Dr. Reed's petition has made to the discussion on what IVF centers should do during the COVID-19 outbreak. Image by Omar Lopez via Unsplash.

Another frequent question we received from patients is whether CHR supports the petition on women's rights to fertility treatment and evaluation during the COVID-19 outbreak, circulated by our colleague Beverly G. Reed, MD. We actually discussed her petition in quite some detail in our March 22, 2020 COVID-19 Bulletin and have little to add here in our monthly newsletter.
As we stated in the bulletin, we agreed with much of what our colleague had to say in her commentary. In contrast to the pompous statement from the Fertility Provider’s Alliance (FPA), reviewed in detail in the lead article of this VOICE, we considered the petition to represent a very genuine, honest and valuable contribution to the discussion. In light of the very strategic attack from the FPA on the ASRM, we currently, however, view additional activities directed against the ASRM leadership as counterproductive and, therefore, have abstained from signing on to this petition. This, nonetheless, should not be understood as a negative commentary on Dr. Reed’s effort. To the contrary, CHR wishes to express its respect for the initiative she has shown in attempting to right a wrong.
This is a part of the April 2020 CHR VOICE.
