In Focus: Images from the embryology lab

Deep within the ovary resides the many eggs enclosed in their follicles that are awaiting an awakening! As shown in this picture, the circular network of green fibers encompasses a single oocyte that contains a red spot. Here at CHR, leading-edge research continues to probe the mysteries of the human egg long before it is ever retrieved from the ovary after ovarian stimulation. It is our ongoing belief that the chances of a given egg cell to make a baby may be determined long before it is ovulated naturally or after egg retrieval in our patients.
