Egg Quality

Determining Egg Quality

"CHR is working toward developing a standard to measure egg quality, which will help our embryologists objectively choose the best eggs."

Center For Human Reproduction: Dr. Norbert Gleicher, best fertility specialist in the US Dr. Norbert Gleicher

While we spend a lot of time talking about egg quality and its importance in achieving a successful pregnancy, we, as a medical field, do not currently have an objective way of defining and measuring egg quality. We know that a good quality egg leads to a good quality embryo, but how do we choose that good quality egg? Is there a way to turn a poor quality egg into a good quality one?

CHR physicians and laboratory scientists are currently working toward a solution to this problem by developing a standardized scoring system to effectively define and measure egg quality. This standardized system will help our embryologists better identify "good" eggs versus "poor" eggs, an identification that can lead to new developments in techniques, tools, and treatments that result in a more successful cultivation of good-quality embryos.
