The best clinic for getting pregnant with your own eggs over 40
At the Center for Human Reproduction (CHR), we specialize in helping women over 40 get pregnant with their own eggs. For decades, many fertility clinics have told women in their 40s that their only option is donor eggs. At CHR, we believe differently. While fertility naturally declines with age, pregnancy over 40 is possible—especially with the right diagnostic workup and customized IVF protocols. To this day we hold the world record for helping the oldest patient get pregnant with her own eggs at age 47 and she gave birth to a healthy baby at age 48.
Why Age Shouldn’t Be the Only Factor
Across the United States, the median age of women undergoing IVF has roughly stayed around 36 for years. At CHR, our median patient age recently reached 45. Many of these women were turned away by other clinics because of their age or because they were diagnosed with “unexplained infertility.” We don’t believe unexplained infertility is a real diagnosis. Instead, it signals that critical testing or evaluation was missed. By digging deeper through ovarian reserve testing, hormone assessments, immune evaluation, and careful review of medical history we almost always identify one or more reasons why pregnancy has been difficult.
Customized IVF Protocols for Women Over 40
One of the reasons CHR has been able to help women conceive well into their 40s and even early 50s is our insistence on personalization. IVF after 40 cannot be treated with cookie-cutter protocols. Every step of the process must be tailored to the patient’s biology, ovarian function, and medical history.
Individualized Ovarian Stimulation
Most fertility clinics use standardized stimulation regimens based on age groups. At CHR, we build stimulation protocols one patient at a time. The choice of medications, dosages, and timing are adjusted according to your ovarian reserve, hormone levels, and how your ovaries respond in real time. For women with diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) or premature ovarian aging (POA), these differences are critical to retrieving viable eggs.
Early Egg Retrieval for Better Quality
In standard IVF, ovulation is triggered when follicles reach 18–20 mm. Our research shows that for older women, waiting that long can actually lower egg quality. At CHR, we sometimes retrieve eggs earlier, when follicles are as small as 10–12 mm, because this can result in better embryos.
Flexible Embryo Transfers
Many clinics only perform Day 5 blastocyst transfers, but this rigid approach doesn’t work for every patient. At CHR, we assess whether Day 3, Day 4, or Day 5 provides the best outcome for each individual. We also align embryo transfer timing with your hormone levels and uterine environment, so the transfer happens when your body is most receptive. Again we do this for every patient on a case by case basis, not just a standard clinic protocol.
Center For Human Reproduction Reviews
Doctor Sonia was Amazing! She is so good and kind, and she explained everything to me very clearly and nicely.
excellent experience and fast efficient service
Having met Dr. Gleicher for the first time today, I immediately felt at ease with his clear and thorough explanation of my case and individual circumstances. I was impressed that he was already familiar with the fertility clinic I had previously used, which had recently made headlines for its questionable practices. I would confidently recommend the Center for Human Reproduction. Dr. Gleicher and his team are exceptionally professional and deeply knowledgeable, dedicated to helping women achieve their fertility goals.
CHR in New York has a passionate and knowledgeable team, especially Dr. David and Dr. Norbert, who are truly committed to helping patients with complex fertility cases. They are honest and realistic. One IVF cycle may not be enough, and there are no guaranteed quick fixes. The care is excellent across the board, and nurses like Sonia and Maria go above and beyond to make you feel supported and cared for. It is important to know that treatment can be expensive if you do not have health insurance, but if you're looking for a dedicated and experienced team, CHR is a strong choice.
We are having a very nice experience at Center For Human Reproduction and appreciate the thoughtfulness of the doctors and staff.

Comprehensive Fertility Testing and Diagnosis
When treating infertility over 40, we don’t just focus on egg count. Fertility depends on the entire hormonal and immune environment surrounding the ovaries and uterus. Conditions like thyroid dysfunction, autoimmune activity, or inflammation can affect egg quality, embryo development, and implantation. By addressing these root causes alongside IVF, we improve both chances of conception and ongoing pregnancy rates.
Success Stories That Challenge the Norms
CHR has helped women conceive in their 40s with their own eggs after being told elsewhere that they had “no chance.” In fact, we hold the world record for the oldest patient to give birth with her own eggs, at age 48. Our outcomes show that with the right approach, women over 40 can achieve healthy pregnancies—even when other clinics discourage them from trying.
Our Philosophy
We don’t see age as a disqualifier. Instead, we see each patient as an individual with unique biology and unique potential. Our job is to uncover what’s really happening, design protocols that maximize your chances, and support you every step of the way. For women over 40 who want to get pregnant with their own eggs, CHR offers hope, science, and experience where others may only offer donor eggs.
If you’ve been told your only option is donor eggs, know this: there may be another path. At CHR, we’re committed to helping you move forward—not starting over—with individualized care designed for your journey.
