Second Opinions Q & A

What is the second opinion fertility program?

The second opinion program at the Center for Human Reproduction is an opportunity to get a fresh set of expert eyes on your fertility case.

With this program, the experienced fertility doctors can evaluate your diagnosis and prior treatment. Over 90% of patients come to the Center for Human Reproduction after already having fertility treatment at another facility.

The second opinion fertility program is a unique opportunity to learn new information about your diagnosis and treatment needs with no obligation or commitment to future care. After your second opinion appointment, you’re free to pursue the appropriate treatment on-site or at another facility of your choosing.

How does the second opinion program work?

You complete a questionnaire with all your medical information. It’s important to provide as much detail as possible. You can also send medical records to the Center for Human Reproduction office for the team to consider that information as part of your second opinion.

The experienced team reviews all the information, including prior lab work and information about previous treatment IVF or IUI cycles if provided, to determine a preliminary diagnosis. In some cases, this diagnosis corroborates your prior diagnosis, but in many cases, the team finds problems that other doctors missed.

Of course, your second opinion diagnosis has certain limitations because the team doesn’t have all your current medical information yet. So, to verify their preliminary diagnosis, you usually need additional lab testing and follow-up consultation.

The Center for Human Reproduction offers follow-up consultations at a dramatically reduced rate for anyone who comes in for a second opinion. The follow-up consultation can incorporate old and new information to give you an up-to-date, personalized diagnosis and treatment recommendation.

When should I consider a second opinion for fertility problems?

If you’ve already undergone treatment elsewhere without success, or if you’re feeling frustrated with past failures, you’re an excellent candidate for a second opinion at the Center for Human Reproduction. It’s known worldwide as a center of last resort because the team can help patients that other doctors can’t or won’t treat.

There’s no age limit, and issues that might prevent treatment elsewhere aren’t a problem for the caring team. If you think your chance to have a baby is over because of your age, gender, relationship status, or any other reason, take heart: the second opinion program can help you see the possibilities.

The Center for Human Reproduction is here to help with male, female, and LGBTQ+ family building, especially for people who have difficult or challenging cases. Get your second opinion by calling the office or clicking the online scheduler.
