Is Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS) a Good Idea?
Many IVF centers routinely use pre-implantation genetic screening (PGS) to "select the best embryos and improve pregnancy rates." However, PGS is inaccurate at best, and has a big downside: Embryos with potential to develop into healthy babies end up getting discarded as abnormal. "We give embryos a chance to prove themselves" and avoid PGS, particularly in women with diminished ovarian reserve, says Dr. Barad of the Center for Human Reproduction.
