Single embryo transfer and patient’s right of self determination

Transferring only one embryo after an IVF cycle to avoid twins is a common practice. For many patients whose pregnancy chances are low, however, a push toward single embryo transfer can be detrimental, because it significantly reduces pregnancy rates even further.
