Egg Donation for Long-Distance Donors

Information for Long-Distance Donor Applicants

Welcome to the Center for Human Reproduction (CHR)'s egg donor program!

Most of CHR's egg donors live locally in the New York Tri-State area. In an effort to match the diversity of our worldwide patient population and increasing needs for egg donors, however, CHR has also started recruiting potential egg donors in the rest of the United States. Since the costs of managing a long-distance egg donor are much higher (including your travel, hotel and living costs for 3 days in New York City), which a recipient couple will be responsible for, you have to be exceptionally qualified in order to be considered as a potential egg donor in our program. This means that you need to be really "special" in something.

What We Are Looking For

What You Will Receive

  • Exceptional academic achievements
  • Athletic prowess
  • Artistic talents
  • Rare ethnic, cultural or religious heritage
  • Exceptional physical characteristics
  • Satisfaction of helping an infertile couple
  • Free travel to New York City
  • Egg donor compensation of $8,000

If you believe you are an exceptional young woman, and are between the ages of 21 and 29, please consider donating eggs in our New York City fertility center.

Egg donors from out of the NYC area will be required to travel to our center in Manhattan only once, for 3 days (2 nights). The rest of the process will be taken care of locally at a fertility center close to where you live, under our physicians' supervision.

Compensation

Donating your eggs requires a significant amount of commitment and comes with responsibilities. Our current egg donation compensation is $8,000 at our CHR-New York program, if you produce at least 10 mature eggs (a historical average egg donors have produced at CHR). Your compensation depends on how many eggs you produce. This compensation is higher than typical egg donor compensation in locations outside of New York City. If you are in high demand, you will also have an opportunity to earn more. For further details about our compensation structure, please see this page.

Egg Donation: Logistics of Donating Eggs at Our Center from Outside New York City

Egg Donation for Long-Distance Donors

The first step is to fill out the online egg donor application, just like for any other women considering donating eggs. If you match what we are looking for, we will contact you to set up a video interview with one of our clinical coordinators. If you pass this initial screening interview, you will be invited to another video interview with one of our physicians.

Once you are accepted into the program, we will arrange limited medical testing for you locally where you live, involving a blood draw and a vaginal ultrasound. If all this testing is normal, you will become a member of our egg donor pool, visible to recipients within our egg donor database, and ready to be matched to a recipient.

When a recipient chooses you as a donor, our clinical coordinator will contact you to confirm your availability. If you are available for egg donation at that time, you will have a second round of FDA-required medical testing, which will also be performed locally. Once you passed this second round of testing, you are officially "matched."

You will then receive a detailed "teach" via video to show you what you need to do during the egg donation cycle. Once you are ready, you will start taking the medications necessary for your ovarian stimulation. Ovarian stimulation phase requires frequent monitoring visits, which will be arranged at an IVF center close to where you live. We will monitor your progress long-distance, and will be available to address any questions that may arise.

The length of an egg donation cycle can vary, depending on your body's response to the fertility medications, but usually it is approximately one month from the start of treatment to egg retrieval.

When your eggs are ready for retrieval, we will arrange a flight and hotel for your stay in NYC. You will fly to NYC the night before your egg retrieval, and stay here until the night after your egg retrieval, just to make sure that you recover well. You, thus, will be in NYC for 3 days and 2 nights, and will receive an appropriate food allowance ($200) for this time. In other words, all of your costs for your 3 days in NYC will be covered.

The egg retrieval itself only takes a couple of minutes, and is performed under intravenous (IV) sedation. You won't feel any pain. Approximately one hour after retrieval, you will be ready to go back to your hotel. We will make arrangements that somebody will accompany you, and we recommend that you take it easy for the rest of that day.
